CIFOR-ICRAF
Agroecology is gaining significant momentum in Kenya as a promising approach for transforming the country’s food systems. The increasing need to address challenges in agriculture, alongside a strong agroecology movement, has positioned agroecology as a key focus for policymakers and practitioners. The National Agroecology Strategy for Food Systems Transformation (NAS-FST) is in its final approval stages by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, aiming to mainstream agroecology practices across Kenya’s food systems.
CIFOR-ICRAF seeks to support the development and operationalization of the NAS-FST by conducting a targeted stakeholder mapping exercise. This exercise will help identify agroecology actors, their specific areas of focus, and their roles in supporting the NAS-FST implementation matrix.

1. Objectives of the Consultancy
The overall objective of this consultancy is to
conduct a comprehensive stakeholder mapping of agroecology actors in Kenya,
analyzing their roles, focus areas, and influence within the agroecology
landscape. The consultancy will provide insights that will inform the effective
planning and implementation of the NAS-FST.
3. Scope of Work

activities:
- Mapping
Agroecology Actors: Identify key actors involved in agroecology
in Kenya, including government institutions, civil society organizations,

areas of focus, and their influence in shaping the agroecology agenda.
Analyze the network structure, including the existence of clusters and
connections between them. - Reporting

on how the organization and distribution of actors across different
thematic areas of focus may impact the successful implementation of the
NAS-FST.
4. Key
Questions for the Stakeholder Mapping
The mapping exercise will focus on the following
key questions:

are the key actors promoting agroecology in Kenya? - What
are the specific areas of focus for different actors? - How
do these actors interact and connect with each other within the
agroecology space? - Which
actors hold the most influence and prominence in the agroecology sector? - How
is the agroecology network structured, including the number and nature of
clusters? - What
insights can be drawn from the organization of the agroecology actor
landscape to support NAS-FST implementation?
5. Deliverables
The consultant will provide the following
deliverables:
- Research
Methods and Tools: Develop and present appropriate tools for
data collection and analysis, including surveys, interviews, or focus
groups, and key informant interviews where necessary. - Inception
Workshop Report: Organize an inception workshop to introduce
the project, validate the research tools, and assess the state of
stakeholders in Kenya’s agroecology landscape. The report will summarize
workshop discussions and provide initial insights on stakeholder dynamics. - Stakeholder
Mapping Analysis Report: Produce a comprehensive analysis report
detailing the identified agroecology actors, their focus areas, and
network interactions. The report should offer recommendations for
leveraging these actors for the successful implementation of NAS-FST. - Validation
Report: Following the completion of the stakeholder
mapping analysis, the consultant will conduct a validation workshop to
