Undertaking research on natural resources management (NRM), landscape restoration and climate change with a focus on agroforestry, agriculture and forestry ecosystems.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Lead implementation of agro-ecological and soil health research and development in agroforestry, agriculture and forest ecosystems
  2. Support research and development of tree seed and seedlings supply systems in Tanzania, including indigenous trees domestication and value addition. 
  3. Support research in bioenergy and circular bioeconomy in the country
  4. Contribute to climate change and mitigation research in agriculture, forestry and other ecosystems
  5. Contribute to climate financing research and development activities in Tanzania, including carbon farming programs.
  6. Coordinate field operations for CIFOR-ICRAF’s biophysical research and development activities in Tanzania
  7. Supervise local partners (institutions, students, individuals etc.) working on projects in Tanzania
  8. Train farmers, partners, Interns and students on agroforestry and various aspects of CIFOR-ICRAF research projects
  9. Participate in the preparations of technical reports, manuals, policy briefs and scientific publications
  10. Contribute to research and development of policy framework for agroforestry, Climate Change, NRM and related fields in Tanzania
  11. Work with the Country Representative in mobilizing resources to support CIFOR-ICRAF programs in Tanzania.


Requirements

  • MSc. in a discipline relevant to Agroforestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, NRM, and Forestry. 
  • A good knowledge of agroforestry, climate change and NRM programs in Tanzania
  • Experience with leading fieldwork, training farmers and supporting technology scaling operations.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience of research and fieldwork in projects related to agroforestry, agriculture, climate change, forestry, and/or NRM.

Education, knowledge and experience

Terms and conditions

•This is a Locally Recruited position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience.
 •The duty station will be Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
