The Driver-mechanic will support project activities in the field. This role is essential to ensure team mobility, vehicle maintenance, safety and punctuality
Duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure safe and punctual transport of personnel, partners, materials and equipment related to the project
2. Respect planned itineraries and ensure the application of road traffic rules in all circumstances
3. Maintain professional and courteous behavior towards passengers and external contacts
4. Carry out regular checks on vehicles to ensure they are in good working order (oil levels, tires, brakes, battery, etc.)
5. Carry out basic mechanical repairs and report more complex maintenance needs to the project coordinator
6. Ensure the interior and exterior cleaning of the vehicle to guarantee its presentation and hygiene
7. Keep accurate records of vehicle maintenance, repairs and inspections
8. Participate in the logistical management of field missions, including the loading and unloading of equipment
9. Check transported equipment to ensure its safety and good condition
10. Assist with route preparation and travel planning in coordination with the team
11. Ensure that all vehicle documents (insurance, registration, maintenance booklet) are up to date
12. Complete vehicle logbooks, including information on mileage, fuel consumption and missions carried out
13. Comply with internal vehicle and equipment management procedures
14. Identify and report promptly any mechanical problems or safety hazards
15. Ensure that vehicles are equipped with the necessary safety tools and equipment (fire extinguisher, first-aid kit, etc.)
16. Anticipate risks related to road and weather conditions when traveling in rural or isolated areas
Education, knowledge and experience
Diploma or certification in automotive mechanics or equivalent
? Valid driving license (categories B, C or D as required)
? Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a driver mechanic, preferably in an NGO or development project
? Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills
? Good knowledge of roads and driving conditions in the Kayes and Nioro region
? Ability to work in rural and remote areas with sometimes difficult road conditions
? Knowledge of road safety rules and vehicle maintenance standards
? Ability to communicate in French; knowledge of local languages (Bambara, Soninke, etc.) is an asset
? Willingness to travel frequently and work outside normal working hours according to project needs
Terms and conditions
•This is a Locally Recruited position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience.
•The duty station will be in Kayes/Nioro, Mali CIFOR-ICRAF Offices.
