The Field Technician will contribute to the implementation, monitoring and coordination of GMV project activities in the Kayes and Nioro regions in collaboration with local stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities

Summary of responsibilities

1.       Ensure community mobilization and involvement of local stakeholders.

2.       Monitor forest and agroforestry resource management and restoration activities.

3.       Train and support communities on sustainable practices in the use of natural resources.

4.       Support data collection and monitoring and evaluation of the impacts of interventions.

5.       Raise awareness among communities on the objectives and benefits of the GMV project.

6.       Identify and collaborate with local leaders, farmers’ organizations, and women’s and youth groups.

7.       Ensure active participation of communities in land management and restoration activities.

8.       Supervise reforestation, assisted natural regeneration (RNA), and plant production activities in rural resource centers (CRR).

9.       Support communities in implementing sustainable agroforestry practices.

10.   Support sustainable forest resource management activities, including the development of participatory management plans.

11.   Support local land governance initiatives to reduce land use conflicts.

12.   Train local communities on soil conservation, forest management, and environmental monitoring techniques.

13.   Organize capacity-building workshops for targeted groups.

14.   Document good practices and share lessons with stakeholders.

15.   Regularly collect data on activities and their impacts on the ground.

16.   Contribute to periodic reporting and progress assessment.

17.   Participate in coordination meetings and provide feedback from the field.

Education, knowledge and experience

•Advanced degree in forestry, agroforestry, natural resource management, climate change or related field,
 •Minimum of 5 years of experience in similar projects, preferably in the Sahel or rural areas.
 •At least five (5) years of experience in the fields of agroforestry and community agricultural development; preferably in Mali
 •Demonstrated ability to facilitate and support large, culturally diverse groups of adults, as well as experience in providing innovative technical support and designing effective approaches for adult learning,
 •Experience working in organizational development, adult learning or in an integrated team
 •Experience working on projects funded by donors, especially the EU, and international experts is preferred
 •Proven skills in building, mobilizing and working in multidisciplinary teams
 •Experience implementing projects/programs covering the Kayes and Nioro regions is an asset.
 •Good experience in facilitating/running workshops and capacity building
 •Knowledge of assisted natural regeneration (RNA) techniques, seedling production, reforestation, and agroforestry.
 •Skills in data collection and monitoring and evaluation.
 •Proficiency in basic computer tools (Word, Excel, Power-point, SPSS, R, GPS, Cobbo collect etc.)

•This is a Locally Recruited position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience.
 •The duty station will be in Kayes/Nioro, Mali CIFOR-ICRAF Offices.
