Objective of the assignment

GLFx is an inclusive grassroots movement that bridges local voices to global agendas and brings the spirit of the GLF to local communities. The GLFx initiative will foster regular gatherings of like-minded stakeholders toward the acceleration of restoration activities within their degraded ecosystems. These multi-stakeholder dialogues will gather key actors, including the private sector, nongovernmental organizations and government, for solution-oriented discussions to catalyze restoration action. The GLFx mechanism will collect and share ideas and insights emerging from local projects to regional and global levels, while disseminating upcoming, innovative restoration technology rapidly to a local level. GLFx will build on existing restoration initiatives, uniting youth, Indigenous, rural and women’s groups. CIFOR and ICRAF will provide technical support.

The GLFx platform comprises of two pilot components:

  • GLFx local chapters
  • online Communities of Practice.

The GLFx Coordinator will lead the GLFx initiative and play a key role in achieving the GLF’s aspiration of building an active and vibrant online and offline community of like-minded individuals. Working within the GLF Knowledge Hub and in close collaboration with the GLF Communications and Digital teams, the GLFx Coordinator will be in charge of growing and managing the GLFx community, in close coordination with all GLF team members as well as supporting the GLF Knowledge Hub in key activities.

The GLFx Coordinator will work closely with the following team members:

  • GLF Knowledge Coordinator
  • GLF Communities of Practice Coordinator
  • GLF Digital Strategist
  • GLF Learning Coordinator

Summary of responsibilities

The GLFx Coordinator will lead in the development and implementation of strategies, principles and priorities for community mobilization in the GLF and ensure the corresponding activities are aligned with broader GLF priorities and plans. This includes GLFx’s contribution to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The GLFx Coordinator will support this implementation through new online GLF community building tools.

Detailed list of responsibilities

Develop, update and implement strategies for community mobilization in the GLF, through the GLFx platform

  • Engage directly with selected communities, networks and stakeholders and maintain a dialogue on the added value that the GLF can provide to facilitate/catalyze actions at the landscape level.
  • Assist in the development of GLFx campaigns (promotional, launch and ongoing) with the GLF Communications and Outreach teams.
  • Execute innovative approaches and activities for growing an action-oriented community of practice (for example, webinars, competitions, quizzes, videos, etc.)

Implement strategies for chapter recruitment and onboarding

  • Identify, interview, onboard and support potential GLFx chapter leaders.
  • Improve recruitment of quality chapter coordinator applicants.
  • Engage with potential chapter coordinators to understand their needs.
  • Improve chapter coordinator criteria and selection procedures.
  • Set up systems for simple chapter onboarding, including chapter coordinator peer-to-peer support systems or other onboarding business processes.
  • Ensure presence and communications.

Chapter engagement, knowledge sharing, learning

  • Develop, maintain and implement engagement and knowledge-sharing strategies informed by periodic needs assessments.
  • Identify and coordinate technical support from CIFOR-ICRAF and Charter Members, ensuring chapter activities and projects are underpinned by robust evidence and knowledge, and apply rights-based and gender-sensitive approaches.
  • Distribute learnings from successful chapters and reactivate passive chapters.
    Liaise with GLF learning activities, to ensure scaling of landscape learnings to higher levels of learning, policy making and global exchange.
  • Engage continuously with the chapter coordinator community.
  • Support chapter coordinators in chapter activities and projects.
  • Support effective knowledge sharing, supporting the development of new knowledge products and leveraging on the Knowledge Hub and partner knowledge products.
  • Coordinate with the GLF Knowledge Team to ensure quality and maintain standard of GLFx events and related knowledge products.
  • Develop and update guidelines and tools to support existing and new chapters.
  • Assist with chapter funding schemes (if any).

Ensure success of pilot projects, and monitor impact of these projects and the growing online GLF Community

  • Coordinate with the GLF Knowledge Team to ensure quality and maintain standard of GLFx events and related knowledge products.
  • Develop guidelines for the growing GLFx mechanism.
  • Establish value feedback loops from and in between communities starting from the ground up.
  • Explore partnership opportunities while maximizing synergies across the GLFx mechanism and the broader GLF agenda.
  • Report monthly on community KPIs and take action on underperforming KPIs.

Platform administration

  • Conduct general platform updates and administration, including quality assurance for native platform updates and custom web developments by the GLF Web Team.

Support cross-team learning within the Knowledge Team, and across teams including Learning, Communications, Digital and Partnerships teams.

Support the GLF Knowledge Team in relevant activities, including but not limited to, product development, Knowledge Committee coordination and outreach.

Education, knowledge and experience

  • university degree in a related discipline (international development, environment, international relations, communications, digital marketing, etc.)
  • at least five years’ experience in international development, community engagement, partner relations or growing online or in-person communities of practice
  • demonstrated interest and experience in the strategic and innovative use of digital marketing and media for nonprofit or international organizations
  • knowledge of landscape approaches, and related experience in their on-the-ground implementation
  • experience in designing and running development or advocacy campaigns
  • experience in planning, implementing and evaluating complex projects
  • fluency in English.
  • experience in developing countries
  • fluency in other languages (French, Spanish).

This is a full-time consultancy position.
