CIFOR-ICRAF
Background
The RESSAC program (Applied research in ecology and social sciences in support of sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa) aims to generate scientific knowledge to improve the sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa. The main objectives of the program is to gain a better understanding of the interactions between forest ecosystems and local communities, to develop innovative approaches to sustainable forest management, and to build the capacity of local players to better manage forest resources.
The EU-funded program is led by CIFOR-ICRAF and comprises some 26 projects associating institutions from the South and the North. The specific objectives of RESSAC are (1) to organize and support applied research aimed at enhancing knowledge in the social sciences and ecology of natural resource management and development methods in Central African forest ecosystems; (2) to promote the use of the knowledge produced in the operating methods of targeted stakeholders. The RESSAC program thus aims to contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of public policies and sustainable development aid programs in Central Africa.
During the past four years, all research projects funded under RESSAC have produced huge amounts of data and knowledge that need to be cleaned, structured, analysed, interpreted and archived.
